How to Estimate Manta Bridge Gas Before Sending
A bridge-cost estimate is the total network gas needed to send an asset and, if required, make it usable on the destination network. The direction matters: Ethereum-to-Manta and Manta-to-Ethereum transactions use different networks for their gas.
Suppose you want to move USDC from Ethereum Mainnet to Manta Pacific before using an app. Check the costs for the whole route before confirming: the first transaction may be only an approval, and the bridge transfer itself is a separate transaction.
Which fees should you include?
For a deposit from Ethereum, budget ETH for the Ethereum transaction. If you have not approved that ERC-20 token for the bridge contract, your wallet may ask for a separate approval transaction first; that costs gas too. ETH deposits do not need a token approval.
Once the asset reaches Manta Pacific, later transactions use Manta Pacific gas. For a withdrawal, you need gas on Manta Pacific to start it, and the route may require another Ethereum transaction to complete the withdrawal. The bridge screen and wallet show the current estimates; gas prices change with network demand, so a fixed dollar figure can go stale quickly.
If your transfer is between Ethereum Mainnet and Manta Pacific, Manta Bridge is the route to inspect for the token and direction you plan to use. Its estimate helps you see the quoted amount and network fees before you sign. I would use the quote shown for that transaction rather than rely on a fee from an older post.
How do you check the total before sending?
Use these steps for the USDC deposit scenario, then repeat the checks for a withdrawal if that is your direction.
- Set the route. Connect your wallet and choose Ethereum Mainnet as the source and Manta Pacific as the destination. Confirm the asset is USDC on the source chain.
- Enter the amount. Check the amount the destination says you will receive. If the token does not appear in the selector, do not substitute a similarly named token; verify that the exact asset is supported on this route.
- Read the wallet prompt. If it says approval, that is permission for the bridge contract to use the token, not the transfer. Note its gas estimate, then check the bridge transaction separately. If you already approved the token, the approval step may not appear.
- Check the gas currency and balance. The deposit is paid in ETH on Ethereum. Keep some ETH back for gas instead of entering your whole balance as the transfer amount.
- Compare before signing. Add any approval and transfer gas estimates. Review the recipient, network, token, and amount in the wallet. If the quote changes or the wallet total is higher than expected, pause and refresh the estimate before confirming.
When the transfer completes, check the destination balance and keep some Manta Pacific gas available for the app transaction that follows. Manta Bridge estimates apply to the route and moment shown; a later app swap or withdrawal is a separate cost.
- Check the direction, network, and exact token.
- Include a possible ERC-20 approval as a separate transaction.
- Keep gas in the currency required by each network.
